Quick answer

Choose by the change you want most, starting with an oral collagen peptide if you want more hydrated, more elastic skin. If you're premenopausal and low desire distresses you, ask a doctor about bremelanotide, and let a doctor decide which recovery, energy or aging peptides belong in your plan.

Key takeaways

  • Each collagen trial tested its own formulation, so pick a brand that names its tested ingredient and links to its human trial. Gains measured by instruments may look subtler in the mirror.
  • Bremelanotide's approval excludes low desire caused by a health condition, relationship problems or another medication. It can raise blood pressure, so the label rules it out for uncontrolled high blood pressure or known heart or blood vessel disease.
  • Hot or Nothing's skin plan pairs GHK-Cu copper peptide with tretinoin and NAD+ face cream, and a doctor chooses what fits your skin.

For skin, oral collagen peptides have the most human trial data of the peptides discussed here. For low desire, bremelanotide (Vyleesi) is FDA-approved for one specific diagnosis: acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women, after a doctor has considered other causes.

Collagen peptides are the best-supported skin peptide discussed here

Collagen is the protein that gives skin its structure and firmness. Collagen peptides are collagen broken into short fragments and sold as powders, drinks and capsules. You take them by mouth, so there is no needle involved.

In a 2023 placebo-controlled trial of a collagen peptide called NS, people who took it had more hydrated, more elastic skin, with less flaking and less wrinkling. A 2026 randomized trial in sedentary middle-aged women reported that collagen peptides improved skin health. The researchers tracked facial wrinkles and the skin's physical properties. They also measured immune signals in the blood to learn how collagen might work. A 2026 study of a low-molecular-weight collagen peptide found less severe cellulite, more elastic skin and thicker individual hair strands. "Low-molecular-weight" means the collagen was cut into especially small pieces. A 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis pulled together randomized trials of oral and topical peptides for skin aging.

Two details matter when you shop. First, each trial tested its own formulation, so a result for collagen peptide NS does not automatically apply to every collagen tub on the shelf. A brand that names its tested ingredient and links to its human trial gives you more to go on. Second, several collagen trials had authors from collagen and food companies, including Nong Shim and Amicogen. Many results also come from instrument readings of hydration and elasticity, and a measured gain may look subtler in the mirror.

When a prescription peptide is the better fit

The FDA approved bremelanotide in June 2019 for premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder. This diagnosis means low sexual desire that causes marked distress or strain in a relationship. "Acquired" means your desire used to be fine. "Generalized" means it stays low regardless of partner or situation. According to the Vyleesi label, the approval excludes low desire caused by a medical or psychiatric condition, problems in the relationship, or another medication. It is also not approved to enhance sexual performance. The label lists uncontrolled high blood pressure and known heart or blood vessel disease as reasons not to use it, because bremelanotide can raise blood pressure. You give it as an injection under the skin.

Vyleesi is not approved for women after menopause. If you're past menopause and your desire has faded, bremelanotide is outside its label for you. A doctor can look at what else might be behind the change.

The research behind this article covers collagen peptides and bremelanotide. It does not include human trials or FDA approval records for several other peptides in the Hot or Nothing plans: GHK-Cu, BPC-157, TB-500, sermorelin, ipamorelin, CJC-1295 and MOTS-c. The same applies to NAD+. NAD+ is a molecule cells use to make energy, so it is not a peptide. The absence of these peptides from this source set is not a finding that they don't work, and it does not mean no other research exists. It does mean this article makes no claim about their results. A doctor needs to review your history and decide whether any of them makes sense for you.

Which one fits you

Sort by the change you want most:

  • Smoother, firmer, better-hydrated skin: Start with an oral collagen peptide supplement, ideally a formulation with its own published trial. If you want a prescription skin routine, the Hot or Nothing skin plan includes GHK-Cu copper peptide. It also includes two ingredients that are not peptides: tretinoin, a prescription vitamin A derivative, and NAD+ face cream. The collagen studies above tested collagen taken by mouth, so their results do not apply to these ingredients. A doctor chooses what fits your skin.
  • Before menopause, desire that used to be fine and is now low in every situation, and it distresses you: Ask a doctor about bremelanotide. The doctor will first check whether a medication, a health condition or the relationship is behind it, because those causes fall outside the approval. The doctor will also check your blood pressure and heart health before prescribing.
  • Low desire after menopause: Bremelanotide is outside its label for you. Tell the doctor, who can look at what else might be lowering your desire.
  • Recovery, energy or aging: Start with a doctor-led evaluation. The recovery plan includes sermorelin, BPC-157 and TB-500. The energy and aging plan includes NAD+, ipamorelin, CJC-1295 and MOTS-c. The doctor's review of your history and goals decides whether any of them belongs in your plan.

Take the quiz with your main goal in mind, and say clearly whether you've reached menopause. Your answers point you to a plan, and a doctor reviews your history before prescribing any medication in it.

FAQ

Do collagen peptides help skin after 40?

In placebo-controlled trials, specific collagen peptide formulations taken by mouth led to more hydrated, more elastic skin with less wrinkling. A 2026 trial in middle-aged women also reported improved skin health. Results belong to the formulation tested, so a product with its own published trial gives you more to go on.

Is bremelanotide approved for women after menopause?

No. Vyleesi is approved only for premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder. If you're past menopause and your desire has faded, a doctor can look at what else might be lowering it.

Who should not use bremelanotide?

The Vyleesi label lists uncontrolled high blood pressure and known heart or blood vessel disease as reasons not to use it, because it can raise blood pressure. The approval also excludes low desire caused by a medical or psychiatric condition, relationship problems or another medication.

Which peptides are in the Hot or Nothing recovery and energy plans?

The recovery plan includes sermorelin, BPC-157 and TB-500. The energy and aging plan includes ipamorelin, CJC-1295 and MOTS-c, plus NAD+, which is not a peptide. A doctor reviews your history and goals to decide whether any of them belongs in your plan.
