Quick answer
If you miss the once-daily Ozempic pill, skip the missed tablet and take one tablet the next morning. These steps apply only to the Ozempic pill and do not cover missed timing for weekly semaglutide injections.

Key takeaways
- Check your box for brand name, strength, and whether it says tablets or injection, and use only those instructions.
- Take the daily tablet first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of water, wait 30 minutes, and swallow it whole.
- Starting and maintenance doses differ between Ozempic pill, Rybelsus, and Wegovy tablets versus shots, so dosing does not carry over.
If you missed your once-daily Ozempic pill, skip that tablet and take your usual one tablet the next morning. Do not take an extra tablet to make it up (Ozempic pill dosing page). Semaglutide comes in several different products with different doses and timing, so follow the label for your exact product.
Why can't I use one missed-dose rule for all semaglutide?
Semaglutide is approved as separate prescription products with their own uses and routes, including Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus (StatPearls overview). You inject one form under the skin once a week, and you swallow another form once a day. Strengths, schedules and absorption differ, so instructions do not carry over from one product to another.
The missed-dose wording supplied here covers the Ozempic pill only. Look at your box for the brand name and whether it says tablets or injection, and use only those instructions.
What should I do if I miss the once-daily Ozempic pill?
Take one tablet the next morning and return to your regular schedule. The maker’s dosing page says, “If you miss a dose, the missed dose should be skipped, and the next dose should be taken the following day” (Ozempic pill dosing page). Do not take two tablets the next morning.
For daily use, you take the tablet first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with water up to 4 ounces, then you wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink or take other oral medicines. You swallow the tablet whole with water only, and you do not split, crush, chew or dissolve it (Ozempic pill dosing page).
How do the pills and shots differ in dosing?
Ozempic tablets start at 1.5 mg once daily for 30 days, and the FDA label notes this starter dose is “not effective for glycemic control” on its own (FDA tablets label). The next steps increase to 4 mg daily, up to 9 mg daily at most, while Rybelsus starts at 3 mg daily up to 14 mg daily at most (GoodRx dosage guide). The Ozempic pill uses slightly different ingredients to improve absorption, so it holds less semaglutide per dose (GoodRx dosage guide).
Wegovy shows the same split between forms. Wegovy tablets start at 1.5 mg once daily for 30 days and rise every 30 days toward a 25 mg once-daily maintenance dose, while Wegovy shots range from 0.25 mg to 7.2 mg per weekly injection (Wegovy label). You take only one Wegovy tablet per day, and you do not crush, cut or chew it. You take it on an empty stomach with a sip of water up to 4 ounces and wait 30 minutes before food or other oral medicines (Wegovy pill guide). Check your prescription label for product name, strength and form before your next dose. If you want help weighing a daily tablet against a weekly shot for your routine, you can start your HOD plan.
