Quick answer

Neither Semax nor Selank has been shown to beat the other, because nobody has compared them directly, so the better pick depends on what gets in the way of your focus. Selank suits anxiety: it calmed anxious people about as well as benzodiazepine anxiety drugs, without their usual sleepiness, and the calm lasted about a week after the last dose. Semax suits feeling calm but foggy, though its backing for sharper focus is thinner and older.

Key takeaways

  • Selank is the pick if anxiety scatters your focus, because it calmed anxious people about as well as benzodiazepine anxiety drugs, without the sleepiness and muscle relaxation those drugs usually cause, and the calm lasted about a week after the last dose.
  • If your anxiety and 3 a.m. wake-ups started in your 40s, hormones may be part of it, so tell your clinical team, and know that bioidentical estrogen is part of Hot or Nothing's hormone plans.
  • Nobody has tested Semax and Selank taken together or as injections, and at Rx Peps Direct a 15 mL Semax/Selank nose spray costs $150 after a $39 medical review, plus $15 for FedEx shipping, with single sprays at $125 each in the 28 states plus Washington, DC where it prescribes.
  • Neither Semax nor Selank is FDA-approved, so if you try one, get it through a prescriber and a licensed pharmacy rather than research-use vials, and tell your clinical team about any psychiatric medications you take.

No study has compared Semax and Selank head to head, so neither one has been shown to be better for focus or anxiety. Selank is the one tested in people with anxiety, and in a trial of 62 patients Selank calmed anxiety about as well as the benzodiazepine medazepam. Semax was studied for memory and attention, mostly in small, older Russian studies and in stroke patients. If anxiety is what scatters your focus, Selank's research fits your problem more closely. If you feel calm but foggy, Semax's research is closer, though the proof is thinner.

Is Selank better than Semax for anxiety?

Selank is the one with anxiety research behind it. In a study of 62 people with generalized anxiety disorder or neurasthenia (constant exhaustion with irritability), Selank calmed anxiety about as much as the drug medazepam did. It also eased fatigue and had a mild stimulating effect, which matters if your anxiety comes with a worn-out, can't-think feeling.

A second study of 60 people with anxiety disorders compared Selank with phenazepam. Selank had a strong calming effect and a mild effect on thinking. The calm lasted about a week after the last dose, and quality of life improved.

Selank's selling point is what it skips. Medazepam and phenazepam are benzodiazepines, and in those trials Selank calmed people without the sleepiness and muscle relaxation benzodiazepines usually cause. Neither trial was placebo-controlled, so no group got a dummy treatment for comparison.

If your anxiety and 3 a.m. wake-ups started in your 40s, hormones may be part of it, so tell your clinical team. In an r/Menopause thread about HRT and anxiety, the top comment came from a woman who wrote: "Yes, the estrogen patch and oral progesterone eliminated my insomnia and greatly reduced (although did not eliminate) both anxiety and panic attacks." She was using a patch and progesterone together. Bioidentical estrogen is part of Hot or Nothing's hormone plans, and our clinical team decides whether it fits your goal.

Is Semax better than Selank for focus?

Semax is the one studied for focus, but its proof is thinner and older. In a 1990s Russian study of volunteers, 0.25 to 1.0 mg of Semax given in the nose improved how well people performed operator tasks for 20 to 24 hours.

Semax's larger trials were in people with stroke and poor blood flow to the brain, about 300 patients across two studies. They did not test healthy women who want sharper afternoons.

Here is how Semax felt for one person. In a Reddit post titled "Semax Has Helped Alleviate My Anhedonia," a user recovering from opioids wrote: "It doesn't make me feel wired or high, it's allowed me to regain focus and shake to the feeling of not caring." The top reply was a warning: "Be wary of using more drugs to stop drugs. Self medication is self medication."

Some people report jitteriness, agitation or trouble sleeping on Semax. Those reports come from vendors and users, and the published trials did not measure them. That is worth knowing if your sleep is already fragile.

How do Semax and Selank compare side by side?

Semax and Selank come from different starting molecules and were tested for different problems, according to PepGuard's comparison.

Semax Selank
Made from A fragment of ACTH, a stress hormone Based on tuftsin, a small immune peptide
Studied for Stroke recovery and poor blood flow to the brain Anxiety and neurasthenia
People in trials About 300 122
Approved use Prescription nasal drops in Russia, for the brain. Not FDA-approved. Prescription nasal drops in Russia, for anxiety. Not FDA-approved.

Can you take Semax and Selank together?

No published trial has tested Semax and Selank together. The combination sprays sold online rest on each peptide's separate studies (PepGuard).

The form matters too. Every human study used drops or spray in the nose. No human trial has tested either peptide as an injection, even though injection is the form most vendors sell.

Here is what a combination spray costs at one online service. Rx Peps Direct charges a $39 medical review, then $150 for a 15 mL Semax/Selank spray, plus $15 for FedEx shipping. Separate Semax or Selank sprays are $125 each. It prescribes in 28 states plus Washington, DC.

Neither Semax nor Selank is FDA-approved. Both were nominated so US compounding pharmacies could make them, and both nominations were withdrawn (PepGuard).

FDA says compounded Semax and Selank "may pose risk for immunogenicity for certain routes of administration due to the potential for aggregation and peptide-related impurities." In plain terms, the peptides can clump and carry impurities, which may set off an immune reaction depending on how you take them. FDA also says it lacks important safety information about both peptides in people.

Semax's US review covers medical uses, not focus. FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee put Semax on its July 23 to 24, 2026 agenda for cerebral ischemia (poor blood flow to the brain), migraine and trigeminal neuralgia, a type of facial nerve pain (PepGuard). Selank was not on that agenda. Check the committee's public record for how the Semax review came out.

If you try either one, get it through a prescriber and a licensed pharmacy rather than research-use vials. Tell your clinical team about any psychiatric medications you take.

If you want to feel calm and sharp again, take the quiz to tell our clinical team what is getting in the way, whether that is anxiety, low energy, poor sleep or hormones, and see which plan fits your goal.

FAQ

Does Selank make you sleepy?

Selank calmed people without the sleepiness and muscle relaxation that benzodiazepine anxiety drugs usually cause. In people with anxiety and constant exhaustion, it also eased fatigue and had a mild stimulating effect. Mild irritation in the nose where you use it is the more commonly reported complaint.

How long do the effects of Selank last after you stop?

The calming effect of Selank lasted about a week after the last dose in people treated for anxiety disorders. Their quality of life also improved over the course.

Is Semax a stimulant?

Semax is not sold as a stimulant. In Russia it is a prescription nasal drop used for the brain, and in the US it is not FDA-approved. Some users report jitteriness, agitation or trouble sleeping on it, though those reports come from vendors and users rather than measured results, which is worth knowing if your sleep is already fragile.

Do you need a prescription for Semax and Selank?

Neither Semax nor Selank is FDA-approved in the US, and the safer route is a prescriber and a licensed pharmacy rather than research-use vials. One online service, Rx Peps Direct, charges a $39 medical review before selling the sprays and prescribes in 28 states plus Washington, DC. In Russia, both are prescription nasal drops.
