Quick answer
DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) might help you sleep, but nobody can tell you how likely it is to work: in the 1980s it helped some people fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly, while for others it did no better than a dummy treatment. That early use was a slow IV drip, but the DSIP sold online today is a nightly shot under the skin, and FDA says there is no safety data for taking DSIP that way. If your sleep went downhill in your late 30s or 40s, ask your clinical team about hormones before you spend money on DSIP.

Key takeaways
- DSIP helped some people fall asleep faster and feel more alert the next day, but for others it worked about as well as a dummy treatment, so nobody can tell you how likely it is to work for you.
- The DSIP sold online is a nightly shot under the skin rather than the slow IV drip used in the 1980s, and FDA says there is no safety data for that shot and has not finished deciding whether pharmacies should compound DSIP.
- At Rx Peps Direct, the first order costs $134 ($39 visit fee charged with every order, $80 for a 10 mg vial and $15 FedEx overnight shipping), and one vial lasts about five weeks at that seller's dosing.
- One woman online said she felt rested and sharp after one night on DSIP, but sleep changes from night to night, so judge anything new for sleep over weeks.
- If your sleep fell apart in your late 30s or 40s, tell your clinical team when it changed and whether it lines up with your cycle or hot flashes, because some women say hormone therapy fixed their nights.
DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) helped people sleep in a few small studies from the 1980s. Those studies gave it by slow IV drip, and other placebo-controlled studies found no meaningful difference from placebo. The DSIP sold online today is a nightly shot under the skin, and FDA says there is no safety data for giving it that way. If your sleep went downhill in your late 30s or 40s, ask your clinical team about hormones before you spend money on DSIP.
What did the DSIP sleep studies find?
Two small studies found DSIP helped. Two others found it did about as well as placebo.
| Study | Who was in it | How DSIP was given | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1981 study of DSIP in healthy volunteers | 6 healthy volunteers (4 men, 2 women) | Slow IV infusion in the morning | Total sleep rose 59% over the next 130 minutes compared with placebo. The next night, they fell asleep faster and slept more efficiently. |
| 1987 study of DSIP in severe chronic insomnia | 14 middle-aged adults with severe chronic insomnia | DSIP for 7 nights in a row, compared with placebo | Sleep improved from the first dose and improved further with repeated doses. Their sleep efficiency reached the level of normal sleepers, and they felt more alert during the day. The effect held on the first placebo night after treatment. |
| Insomnia study described in FDA's briefing document | Adults with chronic insomnia | Short-term IV | No real difference from placebo on measured sleep or on how well people felt they slept. The authors said short-term IV DSIP had little benefit. |
| Within-person study described in FDA's briefing document | A small group, each compared with themselves | IV | Total sleep went up by about 20 minutes on average. That was not a significant difference from placebo or from their usual sleep, and sleep quality was not significantly different either. |
All of these studies were tiny and decades old, and their results point in different directions. No large modern trial has tested DSIP for insomnia, so nobody can tell you how likely it is to work for you.
Is a DSIP shot at bedtime the same as what was studied?
No. The studies gave DSIP as a slow IV drip. Online sellers prescribe a small shot under the skin every night. At Rx Peps Direct, the schedule is 0.2 mg at bedtime for the first 14 days, then 0.3 mg nightly. The seller says this schedule comes from clinical practice. No modern study tested which dose works.
The route matters for safety too. FDA says there is no safety data for DSIP given under the skin. The small IV studies reported no significant side effects, but those results come from a different way of taking it.
DSIP also doesn't knock you out the way a sleeping pill does. In the first human study, volunteers said they felt pressure to sleep right away. Detailed brain-wave and behavior tests showed no classic sedation.
Sellers often say DSIP regulates cortisol, the stress hormone. That claim does not hold up well. A 1995 human study found DSIP did not change the cortisol release triggered by a meal. It also did not change the release triggered by CRH, the brain signal that tells your body to make cortisol.
Is DSIP safe and legal to get with a prescription?
Some online sellers prescribe it now. FDA has not finished deciding whether pharmacies should compound it, and FDA says it lacks the information to know whether it would cause harm.
According to FDA, compounded DSIP may cause immune reactions with some ways of taking it. It may also come with complications around peptide impurities. FDA found no safety information for the shot-under-the-skin route. In FDA's words, "the agency lacks sufficient information to know whether the drug would cause harm if administered to humans."
FDA took DSIP to its compounding advisory committee on July 23 and 24, 2026. The committee reviewed whether DSIP belongs on the list of ingredients pharmacies can compound with. FDA said it would not make a final decision until that input was considered and all reviews were finished. DSIP is also not a registered drug in any country FDA searched.
Here is what it costs at one seller, Rx Peps Direct:
- $39 medical visit fee, charged with every order
- $80 for a 10 mg vial
- $15 flat FedEx overnight shipping, charged by the pharmacy
That comes to $134 for the first order. At that seller's dosing, one vial lasts about five weeks. The seller prescribes DSIP in 28 states plus Washington, DC.
What do people say DSIP feels like?
Online, one poster's excitement came from her sleep numbers after one night. The poster on r/Peptides wrote: "it improved by Deep and REM sleep by about 40mins each!! I felt really rested and sharp this morning, like I haven't in a long time." The same poster added: "I plan to test again tonight; hopefully it's not a one off."
Sleep changes from night to night, and the controlled studies above disagree with each other. If you try anything new for sleep, judge it over weeks of nights.
What should I ask about if my sleep fell apart in my 40s?
FDA's reviewers noted that sleep guidelines don't mention DSIP for chronic insomnia. They also noted that FDA-approved insomnia treatments with proven results already exist (FDA briefing).
One woman on r/Menopause described her 3am wake-ups coming back, and some women there say hormone therapy changed their nights. One woman on r/Menopause wrote: "the estrogen patch and oral progesterone eliminated my insomnia and greatly reduced (although did not eliminate) both anxiety and panic attacks." That is one woman's experience, and she was taking both estrogen and progesterone.
Before you try a peptide, tell your clinical team three things:
- When your sleep changed
- Whether the change lines up with changes in your cycle or with hot flashes
- What you have already tried
That gives them what they need to look at the cause, not only the symptom. Our clinical team can prescribe bioidentical estrogen if it fits your goal. If your sleep got worse as your hormones started shifting, take the quiz so your clinical team can see whether bioidentical estrogen belongs in your plan.

how long does DSIP take to work for sleep
For people DSIP helped in the 1980s, it worked fast: volunteers felt sleepy right away after an IV drip, and people with severe insomnia slept better from the first night and better still over seven nights. Other people saw little difference from a dummy treatment, so DSIP may not work for you at all. Rx Peps Direct says to take its DSIP shot 30 to 60 minutes before bed, and its courses commonly run 4 to 12 weeks. Since sleep changes from night to night, judge it over weeks, not one good night.
is DSIP better than melatonin
No one has compared DSIP with melatonin, so there is no basis for saying DSIP works better. The case for DSIP rests on a few small, decades-old tests with mixed results, and those used an IV drip rather than the shot sold today. FDA's reviewers noted that sleep guidelines do not mention DSIP for chronic insomnia and that FDA-approved insomnia treatments with proven results already exist.
how much does DSIP cost a month
At Rx Peps Direct, an order of DSIP costs $134: a $39 medical visit fee charged with every order, $80 for a 10 mg vial and $15 flat FedEx overnight shipping charged by the pharmacy. At that seller's dosing, one vial lasts about five weeks, so you pay about $134 every five weeks. Rx Peps Direct prescribes DSIP in 28 states plus Washington, DC.
does DSIP make you groggy the next morning
In the early IV testing, DSIP did not leave people groggy: it did not cause classic sedation, and people with severe insomnia felt more alert during the day. FDA says there is no safety data for the nightly shot under the skin sold today. Rx Peps Direct says mild side effects can include occasional tiredness on dose days and mild headache, and it tells people not to drive or operate machinery within 8 hours of a dose.
